Fans of costume dramas will have the chance to dress up themselves and try on a specially commissioned replica of Queen Victoria's dress and robes of state at the ss Great Britain from today.
Acclamined local costume designer Amanda Hambleton, who has created outfits for the hit television dramas, worked with curators at the ship to recreate one of Queen Victoria's most regal costumes.
The dress, taken from a portrait of the Queen by Winterhalter in 1843, has been copied down to the last detail – except for the white ermine trim on the state robes which has been made from faux fur.
Jude Holland, from the ss Great Britain, explains how they created the dress for visitors to dress up in as part of the Flash, Bang, Wallop exhibition.
