Dish Hopper whole-home DVR review

Dish Hopper whole-home DVR review

A new DVR with a never-before-seen feature doesn't come around every day, and if it's the sort of amenity that works in every room of the house, without compromise, then we just have to review it. 1. The hopper is the best Whole Home solution I have seen and used ever. The receiver is snappy with its response to the remote I had mine installed when it was first released but I had planned on running into more then a few bugs because it is a brand new receiver but Dish has done an outstanding job updating the receiver and wiping out bugs as they are reported. Last weeks update even increased my personal DVR storage space to 500 hours of HD recording and added a Pandora app to the Hopper. The extra space comes in handy since I work nights at Dish and record everything I like to watch, but now I have access to the Primetime Anytime feature that records the primetime block from the big 4 networks and give me access to all those shows for 8 days after airing. Now I get to stay caught up on CSI when I had to skip recording it before due to a recording conflict.

  2. I have to agree Shaun, The Hopper is one great piece of technology. I like how Dish has continued to push the limits of what a DVR can do. First they released the Primetime Anytime feature when the Hopper came out, which is by far one of the best features ever built into a receiver, then they doubled the personal recording space to 500 hours of HD time, and added the Pandora music app. Now it has gotten even better, as I found out last week when I arrived for my night shift for Dish at the Phoenix call center. The Auto Hop feature was released too much fan fare and it has made my PTAT show even better by giving the option of having them skipped by a single button, finally no more dreaming about my dentures falling out in public.
