Condo or Townhouse Unit With a Mortgage Helper?
It has been a long-time practice in the lower mainland to build rental basement suites in single-family detached houses or duplexes thereby allowing homeowners to subsidize their mortgage payments with rental income from the suites. On the other hand, zoning restrictions in most municipalities prohibit the construction of such suites in condo or townhouse units so condo and townhouse owners do not have such an advantage. This may very soon no longer be the case.

Choosing between condos and townhouses are depends on home buyers. Both of these properties might have different pros and cons. In home buying, budget is still important to consider.
